Discover one of the most diverse areas of Slovenia and see everything from the Adriatic to the alpine valleys on this ultimate 8-day tour of Western Slovenia.
The Slovenia 8 day itinerary of Western Slovenia will start in Bled, one of the most beautiful Alpine resorts in Europe. Resting in the foothills of the Julian Alps and set along the glacial Lake Bled, it is among the most famous attractions in Slovenia. Depending on your arrival, you’ll have the entire day to yourself, so you can take in the magnificent views, stroll around and get a feel for the place. Make sure to also get some rest for all of the adventures that lay ahead.
Overnight stay in Bled.
After a hearty breakfast, we will experience the best that Bled has to offer. We will take a tour of the Bled Castle, and go for a relaxing ride with the traditional Pletna boat to Bled Island. For a bit of healthy exercise, we will hike along the stunning natural attraction of Vintgar Gorge. We will also visit the less crowded but just as beautiful Lake Bohinj located in the heart of Triglav National Park. You can also take a cable car to Vogel Mountain, rising above the lake and offering some of the best views in the country, before returning back to Bled.
Overnight stay in Bled.
After a good night’s sleep, we will drive to the alpine resort Kranjska Gora where we will stop and marvel at the beautiful Jasna Lake. Our journey continues up the spectacular road leading over the Vršič Pass where we will take numerous photo stops to capture attractions like the stone face of the “Pagan Girl” and the wooden Russian Chapel. On the other side of the mountain, we will arrive at the emerald Soča River Valley and admire the great Soča Gorge. In the afternoon you can enjoy some free time in Bovec, relax and get ready for the next day.
Overnight stay in Bovec.
In the morning a short bus ride will take us to the mountain town Kobarid, surrounded by the mighty peaks of the Julian Alps. The area of Kobarid is also famous for its WWI history, which you will get to know more about after a visit to the famous Kobarid museum. Another highlight on our itinerary will be the most beautiful entry point into the Triglav National Park, the Tolmin Gorge. You can choose to spend the rest of the day by going on an optional local wine tasting tour in Goriška Brda or settle in early at our accommodation and explore the land of the thousand hills on your own.
Overnight in Goriška Brda.
Our first destination of the day will be the beautiful old town Štanjel. It is one of the oldest settlements in Karst and a paradise for all the romantics with spots like the Ferrari Garden, known as one of the most desirable wedding venues in Slovenia. When Cupid will let go of us, our bus will take us to Škocjan, where we will dive deep into the astonishing Škocjan caves, listed on UNESCO’s list of World Heritage sites, where we will explore the biggest underground canyon in the world. After an eventful day, our group will depart for the seaside where you’ll have some free time to feel the atmosphere of the dreamy Adriatic coast.
Overnight stay on the Slovenian Coast.
Make sure to put on some sunscreen and grab your sunglasses when visiting the sunny and warm Slovenian Coast. The famous old town Piran will charm you with its well-preserved ancient town walls and the narrow streets with countless stories to tell. Prepare to be amazed when visiting the Sečovlje salt pans, which are one of the last remaining salt pans in the Mediterranean that still maintain the 700-year-old tradition of producing salt by hand. In the evening you can catch a romantic sunset on the beach or try some fresh seafood in one of the many restaurants on the coast.
Overnight stay on the Slovenian Coast.
Don’t believe a fearsome dragon was living in the Karst underworld? After a scenic drive to Postojna, you will see with your own eyes that the stories are true when you meet the “baby dragons” living in Postojna cave. If you are brave enough, step into the fairytale world of knights at Predjama Castle, which is the largest cave castle in the world, before we depart to the capital city Ljubljana. There we will explore the city’s main sights and amazing architecture on a walking tour through the old town. To get a real feel of the city, you can opt for a leisurely boat ride on the Ljubljanica River, or visit the mighty Ljubljana Castle with one of the best views of the entire city.
Overnight stay in Ljubljana.
Unfortunately, every good thing must come to an end. On the final day of your Slovenia 8 day itinerary, you will be free to explore Ljubljana on your own. To make your last day as care-free as possible we can arrange a transfer to Ljubljana Airport from where you will leave Slovenia with memories that will last a lifetime.
