Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Belgrade

Upon arrival in Belgrade, the capital of Serbia, you will be welcomed by your driver and escorted to your hotel. During the short ride from the Nikola Tesla airport, sit back, relax and enjoy the sights of New Belgrade with its prominent ‘blocks’ – a classic example of Socialist architecture, built after World War II – and modern business centres, including the imposing Ušće Tower. Along the way, your driver will show you and tell some stories about the Western Gate of Belgrade, the famous Belgrade Arena and the monumental Palace of Serbia. Check-in at your hotel.

Use your free time to rest and prepare for the trip. At 7pm in the hotel reception, you will be greeted by your guide who will introduce himself and provide you with detailed information about the entire trip. For the rest of the evening, we recommend you take a short, leisurely walk through one of the oldest quarters towards the bohemian heart of Belgrade – Skadarlija. In a charming 19th century cobbled street you will find many numerous ‘kafanas’ where you can try delicious local specialties while listening to traditional music. Overnight in Belgrade.

Day 2Belgrade Sightseeing Experience – Belgrade Zoo

After breakfast, your guide will take you on a Belgrade Sightseeing Experience. It is a new, interactive way of sightseeing where you have a chance to explore the city while having fun. By solving different tasks you will discover many historical and fun facts about Belgrade and Serbia. This adventure is quite similar to the famous treasure hunt game with its map and different tasks specially tailored for families and children of different ages and interests. Your guide will be there to provide all the information needed and might even give you some hints.

The goal is to collect answers on various assignments which are scattered over a certain area. No special equipment is needed. Just bring your imagination and comfortable shoes. The creativity and comfort of this tour is precisely why this is the favourite sightseeing tour of our youngest travelers. To find answers, you should solve riddles, discover details on specific locations or creatively fulfill tasks – and we all know the children are the best at it. And of course, while the kids enjoy being adventurers, your guide will devote time to the adults and present all the relevant information to know about the Serbian capital as a part of a standard sightseeing tour.

Free time for lunch. Your guide will be happy to recommend some great places where you can enjoy a meal with your family.

Later on, you will visit Belgrade Zoo, also known as the Garden of Good Hope. It is the oldest and the biggest zoo in Serbia. As the most visited family attraction in Belgrade, it is a site that you must visit. It is located in the very ’heart’ of the city, within the Belgrade Fortress, in Mali Kalemegdan (Little Kalemegdan). Among more than 150 different species, the biggest attractions of the zoo are white and albino animals, especially white lions that have been the residents of the zoo for 15 years; also, rare white buffalo and its calf, Bornean orangutans, anaconda snake, and many others. Join your children in discovering the animal kingdom. The youngest ones will have a special opportunity to play, interact, and feed the domesticated animals at the Kids Zoo Park. Overnight.

Day 4Belgrade – Oplenac – Aleksandrović Winery – Šargan Eight – Wooden Town – Zlatibor

Breakfast and check out.

On our way to Zlatibor, you will visit St. George’s Church also known as Oplenac, the mausoleum of the Serbian and Yugoslav royal house of Karađorđević. The church is situated on the very top of the hill. This monumental building with authentic beauty has a unique structure and extraordinary ornaments. You will be dazzled by the interior. The white marble floors and the lavish colourful glass mosaic on the walls will leave you amazed. In the museum you will be able to admire the art masterpieces and the personal belongings of the royal family. The Church and the Museum are surrounded by a park, which is the favourite spot for the youngest visitors. Safe and with plenty of greenery and outdoor space, it allows your children to freely explore and discover the area on their own.

Later on it’s time to relax in the more than a century old winery Aleksandrović. In a beautiful ambiance combining an elegant mix of old and modern, and natural and urban, you will have the opportunity to taste several types of the premium and fine wines cultivated and made by the traditional royal recipe. While enjoying the best wines of this region and the view across the hills of the so-called Serbian Tuscany, your guide will do their best to animate your kids and let you fully enjoy the moment.

On our way to Zlatibor, you will be able to stop by Međuvršje Lake, the prettiest part of the Western Morava River. Surrounded by the hills of the picturesque Ovčar-Kablar Gorge, it is a great place to relish the traditional food of the region. If you are interested, your guide will recommend a perfect restaurant on the water according to your preferences, so you can enjoy your lunch on the lake admiring the beautiful scenery of the area.

Next destination for the day is Tara National Park. The best way to admire the beauty of its nature is from aboard the authentic, retro ‘Nostalgia’ train which runs along the narrow-gauge heritage railway, Šargan Eight. This exciting train ride is one of the favourite adventures of our youngest travellers. Travelling from the bottom of the Šargan mountain on a route shaped like the number eight (hence the name), you will be transported back in time while enjoying the stunning mountain scenery and numerous tunnels and viaducts. At the beginning of the 20th century, this railway used to be a part of the railway from Belgrade to Sarajevo.

After being immersed in breath-taking nature, you will arrive at the enchanting ethno village Drvengrad (Wooden Town), built by world famous movie director Emir Kusturica. The village, which includes the Mećavnik Hotel, houses, galleries, shops, a cinema and a church, is made of natural materials (mostly wood), and resembles a fairy tale scenery. Since 2008, the Drvengrad village is a host to the annual Küstendorf Film and Music Festival and has been visited by the likes of Johnny Depp, Monica Belucci, Jim Jarmusch and many others.

We will continue to Zlatibor Mountain, the first Royal resort in Serbia, and today, a favourite family holiday destination. While enjoying fresh mountain air, children of all ages, as well as the parents, can experience a great variety of exciting and memorable activities. Check in at the hotel. Dinner and overnight.

Višegrad is a cultural centre with numerous buildings and facilities built on the banks of the Drina River near the famous bridge (a monument under the protection of UNESCO). The bridge is referenced in the title of Ivo Andrić’s novel The Bridge on the Drina and in honour of the Nobel Prize winning author, Kusturica’s town was named Andrićgrad (literally translated as Andrić’s Town). Your guide will tell you interesting stories as you take a brief stroll around the centre of the town and refresh at one of the patisseries with delicious ice cream and soda.

Drive to Sarajevo. Check in and overnight.

Day 6Sarajevo – Mostar – Trebinje – Budva

Breakfast.

For our guests, we have created a special and unique sightseeing tour of Sarajevo. While you walk, you will learn about the most important sights and events from this remarkable city’s history. In addition, our guide will be sure to take you to the most interesting gourmet locations. You will stop at a number of different food spots, each having expertise in a unique traditional specialty, specific to their locale. By sharing portions with your family, you will have a chance to taste: authentic meat pie known as ‘burek’,

the most famous Sarajevo specialty ‘ćevapi’ in homemade bread with ‘kajmak’, and the most gorgeous looking and tasting sweet called ‘tufahija’, made out of cooked apples, sweet sorbet, almonds and walnuts and finished with whip cream on top. You will also enjoy domestic coffee and ‘rakija’, and a slightly forgotten refreshing drink called ‘boza’ that the older generations love and enjoy.

*The tasting of food and drinks is not obligatory and depends on your personal preferences. Therefore, it is not included in the price of the arrangement.

The sightseeing tour of the city will clearly distinguish two main influences in the history of Sarajevo – Austro-Hungarian and Ottoman. We will take you to all the main sights including: Vijećnica or Sarajevo City Hall, Baščaršija – the historical and cultural centre with authentic shops and souqs from the Ottoman era, the Orthodox Church from the 16th century, the Gazi Husrev-bey mosque, the Sahat Tower from the 17th century, and the first public toilet in Europe. After crossing the bridge, you will reach Bezistan, a market complex from the 16th century, and then you will continue onto the main pedestrian zone Ferhadiya with the Sarajevo Synagogue dating from 1580 and a Catholic cathedral built in 1881.

Day 7Sarajevo – Mostar – Trebinje – Budva

Breakfast and check out.

On our way to Montenegro, you shouldn’t miss the opportunity to visit Mostar, an old town with medieval charm and dramatic and picturesque scenery. Take a look at Koski Mehmed Pasha Mosque, the Crooked Bridge and the old tanner’s quarter Tabhana. Walk down the world famous Old Bridge (the most photographed site of Mostar and entire Bosnia and Herzegovina) and admire the spectacular view of the clear turquoise water of the Neretva River.

You will enjoy passing through the old town and its bazaar. Don’t forget to give your kids some pocket money for the authentic souvenirs and lovely colourful handmade crafts from one of the many genuine workshops. For the complete experience of Mostar, we recommend a traditional lunch on the banks of the Neretva River, with an amazing view of the bridge that rises above you.

Before leaving Herzegovina, it is a ‘must’ to make a short stop in Trebinje, a charming town with a wonderful mix of sights created under the influence of different cultures throughout its history, more than eleven centuries long. First, you will visit the Arslanagića Bridge, a stone bridge with a peaceful atmosphere that will take you 400 years back in time. During a leisurely walk through the narrow streets of the old town, you’ll see the most important sights of Trebinje as you make your way to the so-called ‘Poet’s Square’. While your children play in the pleasant shades of 115 year old sycamore trees, which are the symbol of the town, you will enjoy homemade Bosnian coffee on the nearby terrace. This picturesque town and this square in particular have been a filming site of one of the latest movies of Emir Kusturica, a world famous movie director, with Monica Bellucci in the leading role.

Drive to Budva, the town known as the tourist capital of Montenegro and for all the right reasons. Highlights include walk through the mediaeval cobbled streets of Budva’s Old Town, a cocktail on the warm sandy beach and incredible views of the natural beauty of Budva, the bay and neighbouring islands. Located on a small peninsula, the Old Town represents a treasure chest of cultural heritage. Along the narrow streets and around the squares you will find famous buildings such as the Church of the Holy Trinity, which houses the tomb of the exquisite writer Stjepan Mitrov Ljubiša, and the churches of Saint Ivan, Santa Maria in Punta and Saint Sava.
